Juliaan Andeweg (1986, The Hague) lives and works in Amsterdam. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and followed the residency program at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam (2015-2016). Andeweg is interested in the effect of space and matter and the creation of representations of immanent ideas. He views painting as a somehow romantic, contemporary form of alchemy, but considers himself an urban individual, someone who loves the aesthetics of things as fast cars and pop music. His use of materials reflects this. He uses materials such as automotive paint and polyester resin for his artworks, either to pro- vide structural reinforcement as well as to show the vulnerability of these materials.
